How to make the best use of your vacations?
My favorite parts of the year are the months of my summer holidays. It's nice to have a pause in between or after the school-year to just take a breath and relax before we go back into a world full of tests and exams. Although most of us often have elaborate plans for the summer, we never actually execute these plans because we often tend to waste half our time mindlessly scrolling through Instagram. So, instead of trying to find something to watch on Netflix, here are five things you can do to make your summers or any school vacation more productive.
1. Try your hand at something new
What I love about holidays is that for once, you’re not burdened by impending homework and tests, so it gives you the perfect opportunity to try something new. It can be anything: playing a new sport, learning to play a musical instrument, cooking, baking and the list goes on. You may find a new hobby and you may also learn a couple of tricks before you go back to school.

2. Take an Online Course
There are many platforms and websites online such as Udemy and Coursera which offer courses in many different areas such as Psychology, Finance, Journalism and so much more. You can always do a course on a subject area you’re passionate about or an area you’ ve always been wanting to explore. The certification you would receive would also be a great addition to your CV and the skills you would learn would help you tremendously in whichever career path you chose to step into.
3. Volunteer!
As young people in the world today, it’s so important that we give back and we make a change for the community. Use your summers to work with organizations aimed at supporting a cause that is close to your heart. It’ll be a great way to get to know new people and also make a difference in a person’s life.
4. Learn a Language
Learning a new language is always an advantage to have in any field you go into. There are many institutions where you can register for a course and spend your time engrossed in not only learning a new language but also exploring a new culture. There are also many YouTube Videos and other online modes where you can enhance as well as learn a language.
5. Start that project you’ve always wanted to start
If COVID’s taught us anything, it’s that always make the most of the time you have. Vacations are the perfect time to get a headstart and start working on these projects that we’ve always wanted to do but have never gotten the time to. Start that business you’ve always wanted to. Create that blog you’ve never gotten around to doing. Do it now, instead of continuing to wait.
Just because I’m giving you all these ideas, it doesn’t mean you have to do all of them. It’s also important to enjoy your breaks by doing things like you enjoy, like meeting friends, reading, watching movies and doing anything that interests you. In the end, summers are all about enjoying yourself and taking a bit of a pause from the real world.
